Giclee (pronounced Zhee-clay), is a French word meaning ‘spray of colour’.  It refers to an advanced printmaking process that creates high quality fine art reproductions of original art and photography.  A Giclee print is a piece of printed artwork produced by first using a digital 20 mega pixel photograph of the artwork (which has been carefully colour matched), and then creating a print using a high quality digital printer.  No printing film or plates are utilized, and consequently there is no loss of detail or resolution in the reproduction.  The process retains minute and subtle tints, blends and details that make it difficult to tell the original from the print.

 In the fine art business, Giclee reproductions have taken over from lithographs, screen prints and offset prints as the dominant and preferred way for artists, galleries and publishers to make reproductions and prints.  The growth in the Giclee market has been phenomenal, while the traditional print methods have stagnated.  The technology behind this revolutionary process is based on the power of modern computer technology combined with the most recent advances in printing.

 It uses extremely fine droplets of ink which are transferred with incredible precision onto heavy water-colour paper or artists canvas.  These droplets can be controlled by the computer, so that the resolution of the printed image is much finer than conventional printing.  Never before has the reproduction of fine art managed to capture the integrity of an original painting with such accuracy.  These prints replicate the colours, contrast and brilliance of the artists’ original, using this revolutionary breakthrough in technology. 

 My prints are created on the finest quality 100% cotton paper or quality canvas.  Unlike other papers used for print production that are made from wood pulp that will break down and discolour in a relatively short time, cotton fibre has archival qualities and will remain stable for generations.  In addition to paper, you can have one of my prints created on quality canvas and stretched on a frame to whichever size you desire.  These canvas prints look fantastic and modern, giving the artwork the appearance of ‘floating’ on a wall.

In addition to this, you can special order any piece of my artwork to be printed on quality canvas and stretched in any size you choose!   (Unfortunately, whenever you order one of my prints to be created in an altered size – either larger or smaller than the original piece of artwork - I am unable to offer them as a limited edition, as they then become a special order print.)
