Born and Raised   

Born Kym Stolliday in Vancouver, Canada in 1963, the first indication that I would pursue an interest in art was defined in one moment when, at the age of 6, I sat on the floor behind my sister while she played the piano, and sketched her using a pen and lined paper.  No big deal to me, but apparently an act of greatness to my mother, who from that day on constantly encouraged me at my skill. 
 
Following graduation, I traveled to Australia in 1982 at the age of 18, on a working holiday.  I immigrated permanently to Australia in 1985, and have resided in Melbourne ever since. 

 

Art Related Education

Throughout all of my schooling, I loved art.  In Primary as well as Secondary School my name was synonymous with my love of artwork.  I thoroughly enjoyed experimenting with different mediums including graphics, sculpture, photography, and drawing.  Although I was interested in painting, I did not attempt to approach it at this time. 
 
I graduated Year 12 from Burnaby South Senior Secondary School in 1981, with full intentions of pursuing a Bachelor of Fine Arts, but was distracted by a girlfriend’s claim that Australia was 'the best place on Earth’, and decided to challenge her assessment personally.  Needless to say that I joined the ‘Australia Fan Club’ and decided to stay for good!
 
Despite my intense interest in art throughout my school years, I never attempted any serious form of painting until more recent years when I basically developed my own individual painting techniques through trial, error and thankfully, success.
